Bullies may target children with special needs
Students with ADHD or learning disabilities may be disproportionately targeted by bullies, educators say. But psychologist and author Maggie Mamen says, "It's not that they're more targeted, but they don't put up the expected defenses, they don't give that signal 'don't mess with me.' Accommodations are adjustments in the presentation of information or tasks that enable children with disabilities to complete the same work as their peers. Examples include sitting near the teacher or extra testing time.
